Back on the bean trail

My first stop this year (better late than never) was to Origin in South College Street. I've been hoping to visit for ages, ever since Origin took over the space from Union/Brew Lab. The layout of the space is similar to that when under Union but it seems a bit more open and brighter; and still has the bare brick areas to some of the walls which I love to see.

I liked the quick and friendly counter service as soon as you enter, with a sandwich menu on the counter and some scrumptious looking bakes on display in the cabinet. After ordering, we took a seat in the main seating area, on bar stools facing the counter so we could watch the baristas in action. Most of the clientele seemed to be College types, many with laptops on the go, which isn't surprising as this is bang in the middle of Edinburgh University area. I must say the service was quick and staff were very friendly. Our flat whites were lovely and the cinnamon buns were delicious.

Origin have made a great addition to the coffee scene in Edinburgh and this will always be one of my favourite stops when in the area. ☕
